Remembering the past means taking responsibility for the present. On this day 81 years ago the SS murdered 4.300 Roma and Sinti children, women and men in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Today, we mourn them and we mourn the loss of more than 500,000 Roma and Sinti who were murdered during the Holocaust. The consequences of the Holocaust have a significant impact on Roma communities today – the reason why we at ternYpe continue to remember and commemorate is to bring the voices of survivors to life through their testimonies. Youth for Remembrance – Handbook on Youth-Led Remembrance of the Roma and Sinti Holocaust
The publication "Youth for Remembrance - Handbook on Youth-Led Remembrance of the Roma and Sinti Holocaust" provides a detailed approach to youth-led remembrance efforts, with a focus on the Roma and Sinti Holocaust and its relevance in modern society. It allows young people to develop and organize innovative, community-based commemorations that remember the past while addressing ongoing concerns such as antigypsyism and shrinking democratic spaces. The handbook contains examples of grassroots initiatives, tools, and approaches that can be used to encourage high-quality, sustainable activities and amplify the voices of young people.

We are shaping our own narrative The sunflower is a potent symbol for the Roma. The great Romni Ceija Stojka, a Holocaust Survivor and Activist, considered it the “Flower of the Roma” and it is present all over her paintings and texts. This year, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of 2 August 1944, we have decided to honor Ceijas love for the sunflower and give it a prominent place in Dikh He Na Bister – Roma Genocide Remembrance Initiative. Our Facilitators for Dikh He Na Bister 2024
We are very proud to announce our 16 wonderful facilitator teams for Dikh He Na Bister 2024! They will lead their groups of young participants from all over Europe though a 5-day learning experience in Kraków and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum site. They will lead workshops on challenging topics such as Roma and Holocaust History and will prepare the participants for the commemoration ceremonies on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of 2 August 1944, European Holocaust Memorial Day for Roma and Sinti. Dikh He Na Bister 2023 started on 29th July 2023 with a welcome plenary where the participants got to meet each other and their team of facilitators. This year the event gathered more than 150 young Roma and non Roma participants from all around Europe for what will be a 5 days journey through knowledge about Roma history, the Genocide against Sinti and Roma, remembrance of the genocide and our youth commemoration on 2 August. Today, the Ukrainian Roma people remain one of the most vulnerable groups exposed to discrimination. However, in recent years, Ukraine has made significant progress in its efforts to respect the rights of representatives of the Roma community. This happened also thanks to the strengthen role of the Roma NGOs and the Roma social movement.
