Dikh He Na Bister 2023 started on 29th July 2023 with a welcome plenary where the participants got to meet each other and their team of facilitators.
This year the event gathered more than 150 young Roma and non Roma participants from all around Europe for what will be a 5 days journey through knowledge about Roma history, the Genocide against Sinti and Roma, remembrance of the genocide and our youth commemoration on 2 August. Throughout this event, we shall engage in discussions, artistic expressions, and educational activities, all aimed at fostering understanding, empathy, and solidarity. It is through these collective efforts that we hope to shed light on the resilience and strength of Roma and Sinti, even in the face of unspeakable adversity.
Dikh He Na Bister is an initiative that this year commemorates 79 years since 2nd August 1944, the day when the last remaining 4.300 Roma and Sinti in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp were exterminated by the Nazi Regime. Every year, Dikh He Na Bister gathers young people from all around the world and encourages them to get more educated regarding the Holocaust, civil rights and resistance.
For five days, the participants will have the chance to learn about the atrocities of WWII, the long suffering of survivors who had to fight for their recognition as victims of the Holocaust and how the survivors had to fight to get the Holocaust of Sinti and Roma officially recognized.
Dikh He Na Bister is organized by ternYpe – International Roma Youth Network and the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma in cooperation with partner organizations from across Europe. This initiative is funded by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe and the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
