Obituary for Alfreda Markowska
At the age of 94, Alfreda Markowska has passed away on 30 January 2021. She survived the Roma Holocaust during the Second World War and is a true Polish Romni Heroine, who saved more than fifty Romani and jewish children from from death at the hands of the Nazis. She was born on 10 May 1926 in a Polska Roma tabor (mobile camp) to a traveling family in today’s Poland. She was the only survivor of the murder of her whole family, including her parents and siblings, by the Nazis in 1941. in this single massacre near Biała Podlaska between 65 to 85 members of her extended family were murdered.…

Tribute to our Hero Raymond
Dikh He Na Bister pays tribute to our friend and hero Raymond Gurême, who died in May 2020. He would be celebrating bis 95th birthday in a few days. Raymond was born into a Manouche family of actors and acrobats in France. In Nazi-occupied Europe, his family had been imprisoned in camps, like so many other Romani People under fascism. As a teenager he escaped, then he would break into these camps to feed and care for his loved ones, before boldly escaping again! His sister Henriette wrote a song about his courage. Obituary for Peter Höllenreiner
On 28 July 2020, Peter Höllenreiner, who had been closely connected with the work of the Dikh He Na Bister, the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma and the Documentation Centre for many years, passed away. Peter was born in 1939 in Munich and was only 4 years old when he was deported to the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was very committed to share his story with Dikh He Na Bister and many young people, and he was committed to fight against racism in Europe today!
